One Monthly Goal (OMG) – July 2017

This is what I have done so far.                 This is what is should be.

My OMG for July with Elm Street Quilts is to piece the Stars and Stripes quilt kit, designed by Monique Dillard, that I purchased from Craftsy a few weeks ago.

I must admit when I purchased the kit I thought the red and white stripes were fabric strips. After getting the pattern I found out they will be 2 1/2″ squares made into 8 1/2″ blocks and there are 180 blocks, including the white/blue stars. Each of the red/white blocks have 16 squares.

As a matter of fact now that I am looking at the ‘completed’ picture I do not think the picture goes with the pattern, but I am very happy with the product. The fabric is a nice quality and the colors are very pleasing. The quilt will be 84″x102″, which will be a good size for my queen size bed.

The OMG challenge gives me the little boost I need to complete a project that could grow roots in my Sweat Shop before I get around to finishing. I know I am not the only one out there that needs a little poke sometimes. 🙂

I am a retired grandmother living in sunny and hot Florida. I spend most of my days doing what I love: sewing and quilting. I have a spoiled rotten Boston Terrier named Sami who keeps me busy mostly by cleaning up after her and refilling holes in the yard that she insists on digging and burying her toys. Of course then she digs them up and brings them into the house resulting in...you guessed it...more cleaning. I will be posting pictures of Sami, quilts, flowers, and other things as they come along. Glad to have you join me.

  1. Hi Peggy,
This is a lovely quilt, and so are the fabrics. Hmm, you need a poke to gets things finished eh?! Well, putting a goal in writing helps a whole lot don’t you think? For me, just saying I’m going to do something by a certain date almost always ensures that it will happen. I’m goal-orientated I guess, or I need to meet deadlines. Something like that! I hope you’ll share updates throughout the month. I see a pattern (so to speak – HAHA) of stars . . . you are drawn to stars, aren’t you? ~smile~ Roseanne

    1. Hi Roseanne. I am the same way. If it gets added to my list it has a much better chance of getting completed. I am in my ‘star phase’ now. Just finished up a log cabin phase. Looking forward to whatever comes along next for me to get stuck on.

  2. I think I would still look at how the photo has strips and try to figure out how to do it that way…all those 2 1/2 inch squares sound like a pain to cut, especially if they just get sewn into strips.😊

  3. I tried a monthly goal but had trouble gauging how I was coming along with the project, so I set myself weekly goals. That made it much easier for me to stay on track. I just completed 216 Jacob’s Ladder blocks by doing 9 per week for 6 months. I worked in other projects as I had time. Since I don’t like doing the same thing over and over, this schedule sure helped me get it done.
