Designer Betsy Chutchian of Betsy’s Best Quilts and More is the designer of week #38 of the Blockheads block of the week. This striking block is called Peace and Plenty appropriately so for Thanksgiving week. When I first looked at this block the first thing I noticed was the pin wheel in the center and thought I had it all figured out before reading the instructions. The assembly was totally different from what I expected but with Betsy’s clear and easy to follow instructions it went together very quickly. Thanks Betsy for another fun and easy block.
On another note, Sami and I had Thanksgiving at my son and daughter-in-law’s lovely house in Georgia. We had a wonderful dinner and visit with all the family to include my DIL’s parents from Texas, my granddaughter and her husband, and my grandson and his girlfriend. We were very honored the grandson surprised his momma with a visit from his Marine post in Arizona and grandson-in-law was able to stop in after his shift as a Georgia State Trooper. Between the two of these young men we were very well protected. Also, as the news has been shared on Face Book I think it is OK to share here: My granddaughter is expecting my first great-grandchild in June!!!! You all know how much I hoped this would happen soon. Everyone is beyond thrilled.
As most of you know, Sami the Wonder Dog has a reputation of being an extremely spoiled dog and VERY active. She lived up to her reputation but she got along pretty well with the other animals and even shared her toy with my grand dog, Bella.
Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
May I assume a lovely baby quilt will soon be in the works?! 🎉

Hi Peggy,
Welcome back home! It sounds like you and Sami had a fabulous time seeing everyone and hearing exciting news. {{Hugs}} How fabulous! Now you will be able to share sweet pictures on your blog, too! I look forward to that. I like that both the dark and lighter fabrics have a paisley design in it – very cool looking. This looks like a hard block to me. I’m glad you’re back in the swing of posting. You’ve been to quiet for my taste. ~smile~ Roseanne

Thank you Roseanne. As much as we enjoyed seeing family it is so good to be home. We are so excited about the new baby but as they live about 8 hours away and both parents are very busy, I don’t think we will be able to see them as much as I would like. The block was very easy. I think it was the easiest one in this BOW, or maybe I am just used to having difficult blocks. 🙂

A really pretty block, I noticed the pinwheel first too, then I turned my head to the side a little and saw hourglass blocks as well.

Thanks Kathryn. I saw the hourglass blocks too and then tried to figure out how they were sewn together. The instructions were really good and easy to follow.

It’s funny what different parts to a block we all see first. I saw four bow tie squares.

After I look at the block for a while I don’t see the pin wheel. Changing the color placement makes a big difference also.

Sounds like a quite awesome Thanksgiving! I bet the was an incredible surprise for your grandson to his Mom! I like your latest block and it seems like you have made enough blocks for like 4 quilts now! 🙂

Thanks Tierney. It seems like this QAL will never end. It has 48 blocks so only 10 more to go. Some of the blocks will not make it into the quilt.
