In between other projects I have been working on these scrappy blocks. I am using old, very thin bed sheets cut into 12″ squares as the foundation to sew assorted widths of scrappy strips. I didn’t want to use paper as the foundation because I am too lazy to tear the paper off after sewing the strips. 🙂 To have a little continuity each block has a white strip in the center. At this point none of the blocks are attached together so they can be moved. As you can see I only have 21 blocks now but I would like to have enough for a queen size bed. With all my scraps that should not be a problem.
I am hoping a design inspiration will come to me as it progresses because it sure looks pitiful now. If you have any suggestions, feel free to offer them.
What a great use of scraps! This is so colorful, bright and happy. It is so much fun to play with design. I love what I see already.

Thank you. Being lazy comes in handy sometimes. LOL

Super scrappy quilt! I love to use old sheets or this “ugly” fabrics that friends donate for foundation piecing. No tear away needed:). Love it!!❤️

I wonder about using them in a chevron design. I wonder how that would look?

Hmmm, that is a good idea. It is going to be fun trying out all the fun designs when I get more blocks finished.

I think it’s wonderful that you are using scraps for the blocks. Great way to turn them into something useful! I was going to suggest a chevron pattern but I see someone beat me to it. 🙂

I am excited to get more blocks completed to be able to play with them to see what happens. That is why I like log cabin blocks.

The women in my sewing group were just griping about having to tear the paper off their foundation piecing! Ha! Your approach makes so much sense. And, yes, play around with different shapes, like the chevron or diamond. I think this’ll be very cool when done!

What a great idea to use old bed sheets! I’m working on a strip quilt and I worry about all the paper waste — your idea is much better.

Thanks Sandra. I never know what to do with those old sheets and you can only use them so long. 🙂
