Moda Blockheads BOW #41 of 48

DSCN1379

Blockheads #41 is from Lisa Bongean¬†and it is named Pinwheel Star. As anyone that has read my blog on a regular basis knows, I love star blocks in quilts. This was an easy block and I am so glad I am doing 12 1/2″ blocks. I think the 6 1/2″ blocks would have driven me over the edge. ūüôā¬† With only seven blocks left I am looking forward to putting this quilt together.

Thanks for visiting with us, and as my aunt would say, “Come back when you can stay longer.”

Moda Blockheads Block of the Week #38

DSCN1340

Designer Betsy Chutchian of¬†¬†Betsy’s Best Quilts and More¬†is the designer of week #38 of the Blockheads block¬†of the week. This striking block¬†is called Peace and Plenty appropriately so for Thanksgiving week. When¬†I first looked at this block the first thing I noticed was the pin wheel in the center and thought I had it all figured out before reading the instructions. The¬†assembly was totally different from what I expected¬†but with Betsy’s clear and easy to follow instructions it went together very quickly. Thanks Betsy for another fun and easy block.

On another note, Sami and I had Thanksgiving at my son and daughter-in-law’s lovely house in Georgia. We had a wonderful dinner and visit with all the family to include my DIL’s parents from Texas, my¬†granddaughter and her husband, and my grandson and his girlfriend.¬† We were very honored¬†the grandson surprised his momma with a visit from his Marine post in Arizona and grandson-in-law was able to stop in after his shift¬†as a Georgia State Trooper. Between the two of these young men we were very well protected. Also, as the news has been shared on Face Book I think it is OK to share here: My granddaughter is expecting my first great-grandchild in June!!!! You all know how much I hoped this would happen soon. Everyone is beyond thrilled.

As most of you know, Sami the Wonder Dog has a reputation of being an extremely spoiled dog and VERY active. She lived up to her reputation but she got along pretty well with the other animals and even shared her toy with my grand dog, Bella.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Moda Blockheads Block of the Week – #37 of 48

DSCN1325

It’s Block Wednesday again! Moda Blockheads block for this week, called Double Delight Star, is designed by Lynne Hagmeier of¬†¬†Kansas Troubles Quilters¬†. I changed the construction a little by making the flying¬†geese blocks¬†using the no waste/four at a time method¬†as described on the¬†Lazy Girl Designs website.

I always enjoy working on Lynne’s designs and this one allowed me to add my chubby chicken to the center block.

Thanks for visiting our blog.

Please take the time to tell your friends and loved ones that they are important to you. They will not always be a phone call away.

Moda Blockheads BOW #35 of 48

Moda Blockheads block of the week #35 is called Northridge and it is designed by  Lisa Bongean. It was not a quick block for me but as long as the seam allowances are consistent it goes together very well. I think it will be a great addition to our quilt. Thanks Lisa and Moda for bringing us all these beautiful block designs at no cost.

Moda Blockheads BOW #33 and 34 – Catch Up Time

DSCN1290

Moda Blockheads blocks #33 and 34.

I have been under the weather lately and just haven’t felt like sewing…believe it or not. Usually I go to my sewing room no matter what¬†because I feel that¬†if I am sick I will be sick anywhere so I may as well be where I enjoy the atmosphere. This was not the case this time and it has been really hard getting my sewing groove back in place.

Block #33 is the Starz block by Jo Morton. I think everyone knows by now that I love the star design in quilts and this is another one to add to my list.

DSCN1296

Block #34 is an applique block called (appropriately) House by¬†Jan Patek.¬†I am not good at applique¬†but with Jan’s easy to follow directions and the big pieces, I managed to¬†end up with something that I am not ashamed of.

I really enjoy¬†being a part of this¬†fun¬†block of the week group. The designers have supplied us with beautiful blocks and I’m sure¬†I am not the only one that has learned something along the way.

Moda Blockheads Block of the Week #32

DSCN1287

Moda Blockheads block #32 is called the Dutchman’s Puzzle by¬†Betsy Chutchian. After I figured out the placement of the gold fabrics¬†to make the pinwheel it fell into place¬†like a dream. I used the No-Waste Flying Geese method to make 4 flying geese at a time.¬†Lazy Girl Designs¬†has a good tutorial on making these units.

To find this block pattern or to download the previous blocks go to Moda Fabrics Blog.

Moda Blockheads Block of the Week – #31 of 48

Moda FabricsDSCN1253

I love this block from¬†Designer¬†Lynne Hagmeier of Kansas Troubles Quilters. I chose to make the traditional block but Lynne also supplied the pattern for her layered patchwork technique. I would love to do a quilt using the layered method as it seems much¬†easier to get points even. I was able to complete this block without having to use Jack the Ripper by using Lynne’s detailed instructions.¬†I think the points will pass inspection,¬†if you don’t look too close.

This block and all the others in this Quilt Along can be found at¬†Moda Fabrics.¬†¬†This is the first block of the week event I tried and it has been such a fun experience that I am now following two others for a total of three. All at one time! Sorry to say that I’m not getting as much of my other quilting done but, oh well. ūüôā

Thanks so much for visiting with me.

Moda Blockheads Block of the Week #30

Block #30 of the Moda Blockheads is the Four-Patch Dash by  Carrie Nelson. I have also attached a picture of most of my blocks to date. The blocks are not in any order and I did not place them in the most pleasing layout. Sami loves to run through them as soon as I lay them out so I have to get them down and get a picture very quickly.

Since I am making 12″ blocks instead of 6″, my quilt is going to be a whopper. My plan is to make two quilts, one queen size and one lap size.

Looking forward to seeing your blocks. Thanks for visiting.

Moda Blockheads BOW #29 of 48

DSCN1229

Moda Blockheads block of the week #29 is called Juneau by¬†Lisa Bongean. I was really concerned with the little flying geese blocks but Lisa’s instructions were¬†very clear and easy to follow. It took me longer to¬†complete this block than normal but I think it was operator error and not the block. ūüôā

Thank you Lisa for another pretty block.
